Bode Museum
Check out its entrance hall in the evening when the lights are on… they look so dreamlike with statues lining the sides of the walls. Completed in the year 1904, the Bode Museum, which was designed by Ernst von Ihne is amongst a group of museums that make up the Museum Island (Museumsinsel) in Berlin. It lies at the northern end of the island and is locally known as Bodemuseum. Read more
Berlin Cathedral
One cannot but miss the huge white dome surrounded by four small domes on its corners when visiting Berlin via flight. They belong to the famous Berlin Cathedral, famous amongst tourists for its impressive Baroque structure. However, hold your breath, since the present structure dates back just to 1905. Several other structures used to stand on the same spot where this structure now stands. If one checks out the history of this place, they will discover that this space was first occupied St. Erasmus Chapel whose status was enhanced to that of a collegiate church in the year 1465. Neues Museum
What you see today is the restoration of a beautiful piece of art that was shattered during the Second World War. Situated to the north of the Old Museum, the New Museum, whose plans were drafted by Friedrich August Stuler, was built between the years 1843 and 1855. It was initially opened for public view in the year 1859. David Chipperfield, the famous English architect, was roped in for the restoration work of the same. Thrown open for visitors on October 2009, the New Museum provides viewers a rare glimpse into ancient history. Even though the building was ravaged during the war, most of its exhibits survived the bombing and they are put up for view now. Read more
